Parent Memo 5/9/13
Challenging Minds, Inspiring Hearts and Transforming Lives
May 9, 2013
Dear Parents,
The month of May is filled with two happy occasions, First Communion and Mothers Day. Our second graders made their First Communion, our young communicants who made their communion looked beautiful on this very special day.
This Sunday we celebrate Mothers Day. I want to wish you a special day with your lovely children. Being a mother is not for the faint of heart, yet every day you are there to support your child, take away their pain and guide your child through the good days and not so good days. I pray for each of you as you continue the most important job in your life…. Being a mother. Enjoy your special day with your family.
As we look forward to the 2013-2014 school year I am encouraging the families who have not registered for next year and are planning on enrolling your child to please do so. We are in the processes of making plans for next year.
I want to share a change that will be taking place next year. The Archdiocese has informed me that St. Ladislaus will no longer be able to offer a free band program for our students. I have done some extensive research in finding a new band program and I have chosen Music Education Services for our students. If families are interested in their child receiving instrumental band lesson, parents will be asked to pay an additional cost for lessons. (The following schools in the area use this instrumental band program: St. Thecla, St. Tarcissus and St. Helen). I am sorry to have to share this information with you, but I hope you can understand that the school budget is tight and I am trying to add and maintain curriculum and technology that will benefit all of the students. If you have any questions please feel free to stop in and talk with me.
In your child’s Thursday folder you will see that we are sending home an opportunity for you to purchase your child’s school supplies early. St. Ladislaus is working with SchoolKidz to offer you the opportunity to have your child’s school supplies ready for them on the first day of school. No more running around from store to store. If you are interested in this please fill out the form and send it back to St. Ladislaus by May 27th.
One way parents can help St. Ladislaus purchase new textbooks for our school is by reading the attached letter from the Catholic Conference of Illinois. For many years the state of Illinois funded the Textbook Grant Program. Every year private schools were given state money to purchase new textbooks. When the economy went bad, this was one of the programs that the state cut. They are looking to bring this very important Grant back to private schools. I am asking every family to support this program. Please take a moment to email Mrs. Connelly at elem.stladislaus@archchicago.org and she will send you a link so that you can ask your representative to support the passage of this grant. This will take you one minute.
Blessings and Peace,
Ms.Scotkovsky

- We are asking a favor of all families. If you could take a few minutes of your busy day and write a testimonial for St. Ladislaus School, it would be greatly appreciated.
